Mothers of Abductees hands “Stephen O'Brien” a message about detainees in Houthi prisons of the Houthi militia

Sana’a-based association of abductees’ mothers has demanded the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Stephen O'Brien, to side with the issue of the abductees and those disappeared , and to put pressure on the Houthi militia and ousted president Ali Saleh for the release of their sons.

The association today staged a protest in front of the United Nations office of humanitarian affairs in the militia-held capital Sana’a, delivering a message to the United Nations about the situation of dozens abductees who have been suffering from chronic diseases due to serious health conditions inside detention centers under the control of the Houthi group and ousted president.

Mothers stressed in their message that their kidnapped sons are starved and are psychologically and physically tortured in chains as well as subjected to cursing, beating and humiliating.

They added that the militia have resorted to putting them in positions so that they are neither able set nor to sleep and that they are deprived of personal necessities and threatened with liquidation.

The abductees’ mothers indicated that the Iran-backed Houthi militants severely tortured 72 of them to death until January 2017, confirming that some of them were either lynched or killed by shooting while parts of the body of the others were removed just like what happened to Waleed al-Ibbi.

According to mothers, more than three thousand sons have been abducted, who were snatched from their mothers, grabbed from among their families and taken from their colleges or workplaces, despite the fact that they are civilians and have never taken up arms against anyone.

In conjunction with Mother's Day, the mothers appealed to the United Nations to work to bring back the abductees and those being forcibly disappeared so that they to mark the day with overwhelming joy.
