Women Journalists without chains monitors 112 infringement cases toward press freedom in 2007

Women Journalists without chains monitors 112 infringement cases toward press freedom in Yemen at 2007 in addition to other indirect infringement cases represented in refusing ministry of media giving 68 registration requests to publish newspapers and magazines.

WJWC said that although Yemen press noticed in 2007 born of 34 newspapers and magazines, Ministry of media “still not allowing to register 68 newspapers and magazines requested by governmental, parties, NGOs and persons sides.”

WJWC pointed that ministry of media added other 4 TV channels and numbers of local broadcasts. Therefore, the owner of TV channels have no choice only to search for other countries to broadcast their channels as Alsaeedah and Sheba channels did.

WJWC observed that the power of authority reached in 2007 to electronic media in which unwanted websites and press SMS services were blocked and hacked from ministries of communication and media. They said it is necessary that websites and press SMS service must have registration permission from ministry of media.

WJWC mentioned that ministry of media still insisting to raise the amendment of press law that stated on the necessity of permitting the websites by it. It was pointing that instead of “huge margins that calls are raise and promises and programs were much, it showed that there is wellness from ministries of media and communication to limit the expression and information circulation freedom.”
