Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) has strongly condemned the abduction of journalist Fahmy Al-Alimi, who was kidnapped on Thursday morning by the Security Belt militia, affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council (STC).
The incident occurred shortly after Al-Alimi left his home.
According to information obtained by WJWC from Al-Alimi's family, the journalist left his residence in Inma city at 9:00 AM on July 18, 2024. He was heading to the Cairo intersection of Sheikh Othman district and has not been seen or heard from since.
Reports indicate that Al-Alimi was abducted at the Cairo intersection during a security campaign conducted by the Security Belt forces. He was taken to a building next to the elderly house in the Sheikh Othman district. Since then, all contact with him has been lost.
WJWC condemns this violation and demands the immediate release of Fahmy Al-Alimi and all other journalists detained by the Security Belt militia. The organization holds the militia fully responsible for Al-Alimi's safety and well-being.
The severe violations faced by journalists, media outlets, and human rights activists in Aden, under the control of the STC militia, represent a blatant breach of human rights and international agreements on freedom of opinion and expression.
WJWC calls on civil society organizations and defenders of freedom of expression to condemn the kidnapping of Fahmy Al-Alimi and exert pressure on the STC militia to release him and all other detained journalists and media professionals.
