WJWC condemns detention of Aljazeera Channel's correspondent

Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC) is following up the abduction ofthe correspondents of Aljazeera Channel Hamdi al-Bukari and al-Masdar Online Abdul-Aziz al-Sabri and their driver Muneer Abbass while they were covering the war in Taiz City. Their fate is still unknown so far.

Contacts with al-Bukarni and his colleagues were missing on Monday. Director of Aljazeera in Yemen Saeed Thabetsaid that they had a dinner at the house of a friend and stayed at his home until 10: 00 pm. Then, al-Bukari headed to his apartment in al-Masbah neighborhood and all attempts of contacting him failed.
WJWC vividly decries the abduction of al-Bukari and al-Sabri, the repeated attacks against the journalists in general and correspondents of TV channels in particular.
While WJWC expressed solidarity with detained journalists, it demands the kidnappers to swiftly release al-Bukari and his companions, holding the abductors responsible for their safety. It cautioned all parties against involving journalists and media practitioners in political conflicts, calling all rights groups to condemn the incident and stand by journalists and media practitioners.
